A partner for putting AI to work.

The Foregrounds brings executive-level strategy, hands-on engineering and training together. We help leaders decide where AI belongs in their business, build the systems to support that decision and prepare their people to use them.

Why we exist

As AI becomes part of everyday business, leaders need to decide where it can make a meaningful difference, what is worth investing in and how their organization will use it. Answering those questions takes an understanding of the business as well as the technology. A useful idea has to fit the way work gets done, the information available and the people responsible for the outcome.

That can be difficult to bring together internally. Some organizations have no dedicated IT team. Others have experienced technology staff whose responsibilities leave little room to explore AI and tools that carry out tasks on a team's behalf. Business leaders need a partner who can help set direction, work through the implementation details and support the people whose jobs will change.

We connect those responsibilities within one engagement. We work with leadership to establish priorities, turn them into an implementation plan and build alongside the people who will use the system. Workshops, training and practical guidance help teams understand what the technology does, where human judgment belongs and how to make it part of their work.

The Foregrounds began in 2023 as an education technology company, teaching executives and business teams how to use AI tools in their functions. That work grounded us in the questions people ask when technology meets their responsibilities: how it helps with a real task, whether they can trust its output and what they need to learn to use it well.

We grew into strategy and implementation as clients needed help turning that understanding into working systems. Our education roots remain part of how we deliver. We explain the decisions, involve the team in the build and give people the knowledge to work confidently with what we create.

How we work

We stay close to the business decisions and the day-to-day work throughout an engagement.

Start with the business need

We work with leaders and the people doing the work to define the problem, assess its value and choose a practical first step.

Carry the thinking into the build

The strategy informs the implementation plan. As we build and test, we bring technical findings back into the business decisions.

Build with your people

We work alongside your business and technology teams, using workshops and hands-on training to help them shape and adopt the system.

Make ownership practical

We define who runs the system, where a person needs to review its work and what the team needs to maintain it, with documentation and training to support them.

The practice

Our team brings senior strategy-consulting experience with Fortune 500 companies and fast-growing startups, alongside experience running businesses with responsibility for their financial performance. We combine that business judgment with the technical and design capabilities each engagement needs. Clients work directly with the people planning and delivering the work.

  • Strategists

Help leadership assess opportunities, set priorities and make the business case for investment.

  • AI engineers

  • Data scientists

Assess the available data, develop analytical methods and evaluate whether the system's outputs are useful and reliable.

  • Systems integrators

Connect existing tools and information so a new system fits into the way the organization works.

  • Design and research

Understand the people using the system and design an experience that helps them use it effectively.

Foregrounds for Good

Small nonprofit teams often manage complex work: helping people find services, keeping records current and reporting to funders. They deserve thoughtful technology and the support to use it well. We bring the same strategy, engineering and training approach to mission-driven organizations, with scope shaped around their priorities and capacity.

For a statewide nonprofit, we built a review process that combined automated checks with human review of its services directory. Staff received records backed by provider sources, with clear evidence for their decisions about the information people rely on to find help.

Reduced rates are available for mission-driven organizations. Tell us about the work you want to improve and the resources your team has, and we can explore an engagement that fits.
